Hey you SADD students, do you want to show your MADD moms how really responsible you are so they’ll get off your back?
Oh, your parents aren’t on your back. How about when you come late home after curfew and mom is standing in the doorway with that look?
Well, the secret is convincing your parents that you are not only a safe and responsible driver but fanatical about it. Remember, you parents love you and just want you home knowing full well that you being on the road is dangerous.
So, get fanatical about highway safety. Show them by knowing how to eliminate traffic accidents. Show them by pointing out those drivers that need to be off the road. Show them by analyzing or rating other drivers and actually calculating their safe driving score. In fact, show your parents how responsible a highway safety fanatic you are by analyzing your town’s ability to eliminate traffic accidents.
Can you imagine how much slack you get from Mom and Dad if they know for sure that you are an absolute expert and fanatical about safe roads.

The power of “keeping it simple” for our traffic laws can’t be repeated enough. Again and again, knowing the precise driving behavior that threatens us all on our mean and dangerous roads can help us avoid the other driver but only if; simple enough to be effective.

The SADD acronym should stand for: Students Against Destructive Driving, not Students Against Destructive Decisions.
Oh, sure drinking alcohol, taking drugs, following the lead of irresponsible friends are all destructive to teens; however:
The #1 killer of every age group between the ages of 3 and 33 is the auto accidents, so emphacize the war against destructive driving in your name. That's where the real action is.

Patient Umpiring For SADD and MADD
An Umpiring Lesson for SADD and MADD:
If you can stand the boredom at the next baseball game you watch; note how the umpire calls balls and strikes. The good umpires almost universally see the pitch, hesitate for an instant; then call it either a ball or strike.
What can MADD and SADD members learn from this lesson? Simple, the reason for the hesitation is to let the action register with the brain before acting on what the eyes see.
Well, ditto for drivers who need to make critical decisions in their everyday driving. Sometimes we need to hesitate and take in what is happening around us, hesitate; then make the left turn, or lane change -------------------------- after our brain confirms what our eyes are telling us; that it's safe.

MADD Moms Protecting SADD bicyclists
SADD Bicyclists MADD About All the Aggressive Cars:
Today’s highway safety lesson of the day comes from a recent “letter to editor” at WWW.Timesunion.com entitled:
“Bicyclists Need to Keep Up Speed”
The letter was in response to a bicyclist who had written, “drivers disregarding the rules of the road, were creating an unsafe environment for bicyclists.”
The driver responded by saying, “bicyclists held up drivers with their slow speed and needed to speed up.”
Well, both are right. Cars do drive like bats out of hell and bicyclists ride too slow. The bottom line we at highwaysafetyfanatics are focused on making roads safe for cars. Our feeling is that once the roads are safe for the much bigger, easier to see, cars; bicyclists may have a chance to share the road safely.
Until then here is a piece of advice for the bicycle enthusiasts; stay off the busy roads especially those with bike paths. Folks, bike paths scream the road is safe when it is not.
To summarize, MADD moms need to keep their SADD bicyclists off the busier roads, at least until we make the roads safe. Ask your kid about the route they take while riding their bike.

MADD & SADD About the Obvious needing study
US Withheld Data on Risks of Talking At the Wheel
Recently an article entitled “Distracted Drivers” told of how The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration withheld a request to study the dangers of cell phone usage while driving.
Wow, imagine highway safety experts needing to spend multiple millions to see if driving with a cell phone to one’s ear is dangerous. Folks, you need to be brain dead if you think this needs investigation. The news shouldn't be that a request to spend many millions on research wasn't made; the story should be that our so called safety experts actually considered studying it in the first place.
Here’s a hint: If the driver in front of you is traveling 20 mph slower than everyone else on your road, 9 times out of 10, he is talking on his cell phone. And, yes driving slow relative to other drivers is just as dangerous as driving faster than everyone else. See Highway Safety Law #1, Relative Speeding from last week’s posting.
