Safe driving campaigns by SADD and MADD that focus against drunks may be missing the point.
I mean, precisely what is that we highway safety fanatics want?
Is it don’t drink and drive or is it: “don’t drink and drive unsafely?”
I know, I know all highway safety plans involve getting the drunks off the road. But we are different. We are focused on unsafe driving whether your drunked, drugged, or stone cold sober.

Hopefully, SADD and MADD Know More than Police
What is Aggressive Driving? Hopefully SADD and MADD Know.
Today’s Highway Safety Story of the Day (Link Below) is from the North Fort Myers Neighbor. Entitled, “Highway Patrol Releases Be Smart, Drive Smart,” the article proves that the base reason for all the deaths, injuries, and property damage on our Roads is because not even the enforcers have a clue.
For instance, the article is about the results of a recent highway safety initiative of the Florida Highway Patrol. Although the patrol thinks the initiative is about ticketing aggressive drivers almost none of the approximate 1200 tickets written was for aggressive driving (as we define it).
Folks, this is sad; more important again and again, it’s the reason we lose 42,000 and injure millions more on our roads every day.
If our roads are ever going to be safe, first and foremost we need our enforcers to ticket those creating the problems. Not happening now.

SADD and MADD; How to Analyze Highway Safety
Ten Highway Safety Questions For SADD and MADD
Continuing from our last posting, I took 5 minutes to analyze our city’s website in order to rate its highway safety program. Five minutes! Sadly, my city scored the lowest score possible. The reason: "too much politics in its highway safety." The citizens of my town are all traffic engineers with the simple solution ---------------------------- Not!!
The answers to 10 questions is all it took. If you know how to eliminate accidents this is slick. You see every politician will scream precisely how they have eliminated traffic crashes in their town if they have done so.
Furthermore they’ll damn well do it on their city's web page. Shoot, they'll scream it to any media they can get close too. Folks, they are politicians.
The fact is no city I know of has a clue how to eliminate traffic crashes. Find out more?

How SADD & MADD Can Now Rate Highway Safety
How To Rate Accident Avoidance Skills; for SADD and MADD
Your teen is getting ready to get into his best friend’s car and will probably stay out late for Friday’s big game.
Do you know how that friend drives? If not don’t you want to sleep Friday night?
Is that other teenage driver an expert at avoiding traffic accidents or an accident looking to happen? Most are the latter.
Now for SADD and MADD members alike, can quickly quantify, quite specifically, how others drive--------------- either individually or for the entire city. It’s not that difficult if you know how to avoid accidents yourself.
For instance, I can watch another driver for about five minutes and rate his (her) ability to avoid traffic accidents. Furthermore, it only takes me about 10 minutes of analyzing a city’s web page to determine how safe that city’s roads are.

MADD and SADD Ridding Our Roads of Crazies!
The SADD and MADD Mission: Get the Bums Off The Road
This morning after just entering onto I-4 in Florida, I notice a little sports car catching up to me like I’m sitting still. A young man, he rode my bumper until he couldn’t stand it any longer; (I was traveling faster than the speed limit) then swerved into the adjacent lane and passed me like I was, again ……………………. Sitting still.
From the five rules to safe driving from last week, we now know he violated the two most important laws: One, he was following too close; and second, he was speeding relative to most everyone else around me.
That is everyone but one other crazy. A second car was following the first idiot even closer and trying to go right over the top of him

Wow, two complete idiots and they weren’t the only ones I saw this morning. My thoughts?
Simple, where’s a good cop when you need them?
One, other thought: I had an immediate and complete case of road rage but controlled. No fingers, no cursing …………………….. just fuming.
Why the fumes, because I know these two punks were threatening everyone near them that including me. Furthermore, it could have been my kids and wife.
Folks (especially MADD and SADD members), we can do better than this. Remember this fact; most all accidents are caused by driver error.
Then why don’t we get the bums off the road; and just how many unsafe drivers did you see today?

SADD and MADD Focus On The Criminals
Fight Traffic Offenders Like They Are Criminals (which they are)
Today’s lesson on making our streets safe comes from a recent article in Parade Magazine about how to fight crime more effectively.
Titled, “New Ways To Stop Crime” the article says:
D.C. “uses real-time statistics to figure out how and where to allocate officers. We use sophisticated formulas gleaned from arrest records to identify potential offenders. She and her officers track these MVPs (most violent persons) and make sure they know the cops are watching.”
In other words, the most sophisticated crime fighting today focuses on the bad guys. Dah!
Well, I am here to tell you that the modern day fight to make our streets safe is focused on unsafe intersections and streets segments.
If MADD and SADD want to make our streets safe for its members and their communities; they need to make sure driving criminals are treated just like crime and drug criminals. We need to focus on the unsafe drivers, not necessarily just drunk and teenage drivers.

But being against and knowing what to do about it are two different things. Traffic accidents are the #1 killer and crippler of teenagers, period.
So, what to do?
Here’s a hint; avoiding traffic accidents is a learned behavior and it is simple. MADD moms did you catch that? Avoiding traffic accidents can be taught. The safest drivers in America are almost never involved in a traffic crash.
On average teenage drivers are almost 4500 times more likely to be in an accident than the safest drivers. All we have to do is figure out how the safest drivers avoid accidents; and make sure our teens and everyone else copies them.
That’s it. Do you know who the safest drivers are and do you know how they drive?
